If you've been following my travel series, you probably know by now, I have had the honor of travelling to the Netherlands. In this post, I will share my experience of traveling to an island in the northern part of the Netherlands, known as Texel. Considering this was such a rich experience, I have split the posts into two. In part one, I will share a few facts about Texel, the experience of Landal Holiday Park, the ferry ride to the island, and the most stunning sunset I have ever seen to date.
Picture a day in late July, the European summer hasn't quite hit yet, the sun is out, the days are long, it's warmish, but not as warm. It even rains on some days. This didn't deter us, as we packed up the car and headed to Texel Island for a holiday.
So, before I share my experience, here are a few facts about Texel Island, according to Wikipedia
The Dutch pronunciation of Texel is Tessel.
It is the largest & most populated island of the West Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea.
It is located north of Den Helder, a municipality at the northernmost point of the North Holland Peninsula.
To get to Texel Island, you need to make your way to the Royal TESO Ferry, located in Den Helder. Since we were coming from the Eastern Part of the Netherlands, it was about a four-hour drive until there.
The Royal Teso Ferry Ride
Once you arrive at the ferry, it's a twenty-minute ride to Texel Island, across the Northern Sea. Once you board the ferry, you may alight your car, walk around, use the washroom, buy snacks from the shops within, or climb the stairs to the top and see the northern sea from up there, which is what we did, and I am so glad we did, because look at this view!

After the ferry ride, it was another thirty-minute drive to the Landal Sluftervallei Holiday Park.
The Landal Sluftervallei Holiday Park
During our stay at Texel, we stayed at the Landal Sluftervallei Holiday Park, located in De Cocksdorp.
This is a holiday park with over 140 holiday homes located in the middle of nature. The holiday homes range from bungalows, mobile homes, and safari tents. They can accommodate up to twenty-four persons, depending on the home you choose.
Ours was a 6-person bungalow. This one had three bedrooms, a living room, a dining area, a kitchen, a toilet, a bathroom (with a bathtub!!), a storage room, and a small outdoor patio.
Other perks of the holiday park are, there's free wi-fi, a dishwasher, an electric cooker, and a microwave oven.
Additionally, it has several outdoor playgrounds for kids, an indoor swimming pool, and a small supermarket where we got fresh bread every morning for breakfast and other essentials, an Italian restaurant called Pizza Limone, and a shop for souvenirs, all these a short walk from our home.
The Stunning Sunset
After arriving at the holiday home, unpacking and settling in. We took a mini tour around the holiday home, and fortunately for us, we got to experience this stunning sunset. I lack words to express just how beautiful it was, I'll just let the picture do the talking. ;)

I hope this post has been inspiring and informative. Part Two is still coming! As I expressed at the beginning of this post, I had such a rich experience in Texel that I had to split it into two posts.
So, I'll see you on the next post,
Miss Kambe.
