Travel is exciting, but it also comes with a lot of moving parts, from the preparation, to the actual travel and having to adapt to a new environment, it can all be overwhelming. Therefore, it is essential to take care of yourself. In this blog post, I am sharing seven essential self-care tips for travel.

1. Keep your skin and lips hydrated

In my previous post, 'Going For Your First Flight? Here's Everything You Need to Know for a Smooth Takeoff + My Experience, I shared that cabin air is so dry that I had to constantly apply, reapply, and reapply my Vaseline Lip Therapy Balm. So, as you travel, remember to carry lip balm and a small hand cream to stay hydrated.

Also, on the night before or the morning of your flight, ensure you do your morning skincare routine and apply an extra layer of moisturizer to protect your skin from drying out during the flight.

2. Drink water!

Long flights can be quite hectic and unpredictable. It's essential to stay hydrated, even if you may not feel thirsty. Plus, you may need to walk a lot as you navigate through the airport, so drink water before you leave for the airport. On the plane, they may give you a bottle of water.

3. Stretch and move your body

To reduce stiffness, maintain circulation, and stretch your muscles, take constant walks up and down the airplane aisle and do simple stretches even while seated. This can help to alleviate fatigue, especially for long flights.

4. Pack light snacks you trust

Airplane food may not be the best for your stomach. Therefore, carry light snacks such as peanuts, cookies, and crackers to keep you full in case the airplane food doesn't work for you, or you encounter delays.

5.Carry essential medicine in your hand luggage

Speaking of food that may not agree with your stomach, remember to carry essential medicine with you, such as painkillers or antacids like Eno to soothe an upset stomach, heartburn, or indigestion.

6. Bring a piece of your routine with you

A great way to stay grounded during travel is to maintain your normal daily routine, even if it's just one aspect of it. For example, if you like to journal, you can carry your notebook with you in your hand luggage, so that you can write down your thoughts during travel. For example, I cherish my quiet time with God, and it is an essential part of my routine, so I carried my Bible and journal with me in my hand luggage, and had my quiet time during my flight, while in the sky :).

7. Stay emotionally connected. Don't forget your people at home!

Travelling can be anxiety-inducing, and thinking about how far you are from home can induce feelings of homesickness. To help with this, stay in touch. Share your travel progress with your tribe, any interesting things you may see or experience during your journey, to keep that connection strong. It's very important. Also, if you can, remember to bring gifts/souvenirs with you for your loved ones when going back home.

8. Give yourself permission to rest

As a deeply curious person who loves to travel, whenever I travel to a new place, I want to see and experience everything. However, this can be exhausting, and I remember that I don't have to see and experience every single thing, so it is essential to find pockets of time, to just rest. Also, if you are travelling with other people, it is totally fine to, at times, spend time alone, have your own experiences, and make personal memories.

Finally...

As you travel and experience the world, remember that YOU also need to take care of YOU. Travel opens you up to create rich experiences and life-long memories; it's only right for you to be your best self as you do, through these self-care practices.

I hope you've enjoyed this post, and remember to like, share, and comment, and I will see you in the next post.
